About 100,000 youths who went for the national service (NS) training are expected to
join the Rakan Cop community policing programme every year.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that the participation of the NS trainees in the Rakan Cop scheme would help police to tackle crime in their neighbourhoods.
“The youths have already been properly trained in the national service, and are equipped with a high level of patriotic spirit and discipline.
“They can easily play their role as volunteers in the Rakan Cop programme,” he told reporters after launching the Rakan Cop programme for NS trainees at Titiwangsa Stadium yesterday.
Najib said trainees would have no problem carrying out their duties as Rakan Cop volunteers, adding that they could alert the police and give details about crimes in their housing areas.
