Cuckoo Clocks Sound The End

Chong Wei hit an easy high ball.
Lin Dan went for a big smash to his fore hand.
Chong Wei retrieved it, but it feel short, hitting the net.
All was lost, Malaysia will not win it's first Gold today.

We were silent, only the father of my sister stood standing, cheering, jeering, laughing at us.
You could see that it was inevitable.
After a poor show in the first game, and then giving the first 8 points of the second game to Lin Dan, it wasn't going well for Chong Wei.

Final score : 21-12, 21-8
I still standby my view that both players are technically the same, they are equally good, and as you can see, Chong Wei has excellent defense. But the finals is not the time to showcase your defense, but being outright aggressive and smart playing wins you the game.

I think a few factors contributed to Chong Wei's lost :
1) Overwhelming support for Lin Dan and the fact that this is a badminton court he is so used to
2) Lin Dan's high spirits, it was clearly there, and his aggressiveness, time and again, he did a drop shot, Chong Wei gave a weak return, allowing Lin Dan to smash it cross court
3) Chong Wei bowed down to pressure many times, and this led to many mistakes made by him, especially hitting shots that were wide to the back of the court

Lee Chong Wei has lost. I am sad. Very Sad. We all hoped for a better outing, but unfortunately it wasn't so, Lin Dan was in control most of the time. The consolation is that this is Malaysia's first medal in 12 years. (Confirmed)

Lin Dan is 25. Chong Wei is 26. Will Chong Wei ever have a chance again in the next Olympics? unlikely so, badminton players lose their steam once they reach 30.
Example : Wong Chong Hann

* An honest analysis, worth reading, except its in Mandarin, really small Mandarin characters. -.-
